Scott Ageloff
A Legacy of Design
Ageloff Design Group's journey began with Scott Ageloff, a visionary whose passion for architecture and design shaped an extraordinary legacy. For fifty years, he was a leader in the integration of design and architecture in private practice and in interior design education.
Inspired by frequent childhood trips to nearby Newport, Rhode Island, and New York City to visit family, Scott’s appreciation of art, architecture and design began at an early age. Scott captured his observations of natural and built environments by drawing and gravitated to a career in architecture. He studied architecture at Carnegie Mellon University and received a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University. Upon completing his formal education, the Henry Luce Foundation awarded him a Fellow in the Luce Scholars Program, during which time he served as a working member of the Architects Group Forum, an architectural firm in Seoul, Korea. He was twice awarded grants by the Illuminating Engineering Society. After these extensive travels and opportunities, Scott settled in New York City with its rich culture and prominence as a creative center for art and design.
After a decade designing in the commercial market, in 1987 Scott branched out on his own to focus primarily on residential work. From early days drafting from his bedroom, Scott launched Ageloff & Associates, a firm with a focus on architectural details and integrating architecture and interior design services. Together for almost 25 years, Erin Wells and Reid Betz grew the firm with Scott, and in partnership introduced Ageloff Design Group in 2025.
The firm was not Scott’s only passion. Always a teacher and mentor, Scott dedicated countless hours to nurturing talent and empowering aspiring designers. He was Dean and taught at the New York School of Interior Design and was a teacher and mentor at institutions such as Marymount College in Tarrytown, The New School, the Fashion Institute of Technology, and Philadelphia University.
Scott was a committed volunteer to the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), an independent non-profit accrediting organization for interior design education programs at colleges and universities. He participated in more than 20 accreditation reviews, served on CIDA’s Accreditation Commission, and was honored with CIDA’s Keith Hooks Volunteer Excellence Award.
Rooted in Scott's legacy, Ageloff Design Group epitomizes his steadfast commitment to collaboration, professionalism, and respect for the creative process. While Scott is deeply missed, his memory lives on in Ageloff Design Group, the spaces he designed, and the countless lives he influenced.
